6th - 8th Grade Module 13 Concept PT
Cycle 1
Students view a video resource and consider where the materials we identify with originate from, and where they go once we are finished with them.
Students revisit their identity map and determine one product that is especially important to their identity. Students are introduced to the performance task for the module.
Students obtain information from various resources to identify the mineral resources in their product, develop a map of the distribution of these minerals on Earth, and explain the relationship between geoscience processes and resource distribution.

Students choose one mineral used to construct their product and develop a model to explain the energy source and geoscience processes that drive the formation of the mineral.
Students analyze and interpret data to identify the mineral resources that are at risk of depletion, how mineral resource depletion would affect the design of their product, how losing the product would affect their identity, and how we can make better decisions about how we use Earth materials.
Students will construct a Google Site to communicate the information they have obtained throughout the cycle.

Students will construct a Google Site to communicate the information they have obtained throughout the cycle.
Students will present their project to the class, and be evaluated based on the Performance Task Rubric.
Students create a PSA to reduce the overuse of Earth materials and encourage the recycling of these materials.
Students will communicate scientific information, using a presentation, that answers the driving question for the module: How can we as citizens use our understanding of Earth processes and resource distribution to make informed decisions about how we consume Earth materials?
