Session 1
Elicit

Students examine different toys and consider what processes are necessary for their construction.

Engage

Students watch videos about how toy companies use the Engineering Design Cycle, and review rubrics/timelines for the toy project.

Session 2
Explore

Students research, design and construct their toys using electricity, magnetism, and electromagnetism.

Session 3
Explore

Students research, design and construct their toys using electricity, magnetism, and electromagnetism.

Session 4
Explore

Students research, design and construct their toys using electricity, magnetism, and electromagnetism.

Session 5
Explain

Students share their designs and provide feedback to their peers. Students redesign their toys based on student feedback.

Session 6
Elaborate

Students explain on an informational insert how they manipulated factors of electric, magnetic, and electromagnetic forces to achieve specific outcomes for their toy.

Session 7
Evaluate

Students act as a “test panel” and examine and evaluate the construction, design and informational inserts of their peer’s toys.

Extend
Extend

Students make their toy public by creating a toy website, creating a toy advertisement, or creating a classroom toy store.
